Side Projects

Allen Higgins was born in February of 1969, in the middle of 2 decades of great music. He was sort of a “late bloomer” not picking up the guitar until 1986. “I’ve always had to play catch up” says Allen,”maybe that’s part of what drives me.” Always a lover of good songs, Allen doesn’t like to waste time on lame ideas. “If it doesn’t sound like a strong idea out of the gate, I usually junk it out and move on” he says. Whether his own material, his band Becoming August or writing songs for other projects, Allen always tries to live up to the best writers and players of all time. Says Allen, “you’ve always got to give it your best. Especially being a nobody from nowhere, otherwise why bother?”

Becoming August was formed in 2007 when Allen Higgins, guitar player/songwriter from Brunswick, Maine asked Anna Libby to sing some demo ideas for him. Allen says “She may have a country background, but she has all the power and delivery of the best female rock singers.” With Allen’s rock guitar background, a powerful mix of influences & sounds they made up Becoming August’s first album “Twenty-One”. Allen's new EP “Someplace Better” was released in January 2012 was another step forward with Anna co-writing 2 tracks (Sunnyside Down & Best Place). Allen says “we worked really hard on this record, from the writing & playing to the production/sound end. To really not have it lack anything.” You will find Allen writing his songs as he is wandering around the Maine woods or driving to the Mill in the wee hours of the morning. Stay tuned for more musical projects!
